New Bis(thio)-, Tris(thio)-, and Tetrakis(thio)-substituted Quinones from the Reactions of p-Chloranil with Some Thiols and Dithiols

p-Chloranil (1), when reacted with different thiol compounds, namely 1-buthylthiol, cyclohexylthiol, and 2,2-oxydiethanethiol in ethanol in the presence of Na ₂ CO ₃ , yielded the corresponding S-substituted quinone derivatives.     

Synthesis and Antibacterial and Antifungal Properties of Novel S-, N-, N,S-, and S,O-Substituted 1,4-Naphthoquinone Derivatives

Abstract

A novel series of substituted 1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. The structures of the novel products were characterized by spectroscopic methods. Among the tested compounds, 2,2′,3,3′-alkoxy substituted naphthoquinones, S,O-substituted naphthoquinone, and N,S-substituted naphthoquinone derivatives are the most potent antifungals against C. tenuis. 2,3-Thio-2′,3′-alkoxy substituted naphthoquinones are the most effective antifungal compounds against A. niger.

INSTABILITY TO DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS OF FIFTH AND SIXTH ORDER WITH VARIABLE DEVIATING ARGUMENTS

In this paper, we discuss the instability of the zero solutions to certain nonlinear differential equations of fifth and sixth order with multiple retarded arguments. By the Lyapunov＇s direct method, sufficient conditions for instability of the zero solutions are obtained.     

Asymptotically linear solutions of differential equations via Lyapunov functions

We discuss the existence of solutions with oblique asymptotes to a class of second order nonlinear ordinary differential equations by means of Lyapunov functions. The approach is new in this field and allows for simpler proofs of general results regarding Emden-Fowler like equations.
